Emma is a writer and freelance journalist. Her journalism covers topics of sport and social change, running and gender, and environmental justice. It has appeared in Outside, Runner’s World, Women’s Running, Trail Runner, Tracksmith Journal, Taproot Magazine, and more. Her essays and literary nonfiction have appeared in Huffpost, Touchstone Literary, Canyon Voices Literary, and PRISM International, among other publications. Her writing has received honors and fellowships from Phillips Exeter Academy, PRISM International and Lighthouse Writers’ Workshop. She previously founded and hosted the Social Sport podcast, on endurance athletes committed to social change, and the affiliated Social Sport Newsletter. Emma holds a BA in Political Science and Environmental Studies from Grinnell College, and an MFA in Creative Nonfiction Writing from NYU, where she also taught undergraduate creative writing. She was the 2023-24 George Bennett Fellow (writer in residence) at Phillips Exeter Academy.
Her debut book, Body Songs: a memoir of Long Covid recovery, is forthcoming from Penguin Life (an imprint of Penguin Random House) in 2026.
